Hollywood has been making a few war movies recently. The most recent one being Fury, a WW2 tank movie starring Brad Pitt (who would have thought?).
Well, a new war movie is coming out, based in the modern day, starring Hollywood superstar Bradly Cooper. And directed by Clint Eastwood.
It’s called ‘American Sniper’.
It’s based on the life of the late Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL sniper, who was the most lethal in American history (over 200 confirmed kills, from memory). I read Kyles autobiography ‘American Sniper’ a couple of years ago, and it was riveting reading. He did a number of tours in Iraq, often in an ‘overwatch‘ capacity, ensuring that soldiers on the ground didn’t get taken out by enemy snipers.
Many an American Mom could thank Kyle for saving the life of her G.I. son.
Now I find snipers somewhat awe-inspiring: as a soldier in the Australian army, my best ‘group’ (5 bullets shot from the one position) was in a 100mm diameter circle (at a distance of 100m, from the lying down ‘basic prone’ position, with an F88 Austeyr Assault Rifle).
In other words, pretty average, as far as Aussie soldiers go.
But snipers, especially guys like Chris Kyle?
Those guys are on another planet. Hitting a moving target at 1 km…now that’s accuracy.
Here’s the trailer.
It looks pretty intense.
Will be interesting to watch, I reckon:
